The Old Talbot Comedy Night

Are you ready for the biggest night in Hilton since the Domino’s Pizza opened ?!?!?

The Old Talbot in Hilton is host to our brand new comedy night on the 22nd November 2023. Check out this astonishing line up :

David Eagle (Headliner)

David is one of the funniest, fastest rising acts on the comedy circuit. He recently starred on BBC Radio 4’s “Now Show” and performs at the UK’s top comedy clubs every week.

With David being blind, his comedy often explores how his disability means the most ordinary, commonplace events are turned into surreal and convoluted dramas. Occasionally he dons his accordion (often as a spiteful repost to hecklers) and performs one of his comedy songs, such as his George Formby parody, described by the Guardian as “a comic tour de force.”

As well as being an officially funny stand-up comedian, David is a member of three-time BBC Radio 2 Folk Award winning band The Young’uns.

Having previously conquered the world of folk music, enjoying all of the trappings that come with it – the money, the glamour, the women – David branched out into stand up. He was crowned New Comedian Of The Year by Leicester Square Theatre in 2019 a year which also saw him win new act competitions at Bath Comedy Festival and Nottingham Comedy Festival, and has been nominated Best Newcomer at the Chortle Awards.

“Brilliant, Nuts. Heartily recommend,” Rufus Hound.

“If not for the virus, David Eagle would be closing nights, constantly. A genuine stand up phenomenon! Looking forward to hearing more.” (Reginald D Hunter)

“Just seen the future of stand up comedy and his name is David Eagle.” (Boothby Graffoe)

Stevie Gray (MC)

A cheeky and very likeable comedian, Stevie Gray’s stage act fuses jokes, music, news stories and audience participation to create an up-tempo energy in any room.  The recent addition of a guitar on stage has added an extra-dimension to Stevie’s act and made him one of the hottest new acts on the UK comedy circuit.
Oldham born Stevie is gaining popularity as an opening act, with promoters believing his energy can be used as a catalyst to warm the crowd for the rest of the evening.  However, the versatility of Stevie’s act means he never looks out of place anywhere on the bill, resulting in him both compering and headlining numerous gigs, as well as performing a number of warm-up gigs for TV and radio.

Stevie has headlined a show at the Woking Comedy Festival, beat the gong at the Comedy Store, appeared several times at Jongleurs, played numerous gigs at the Edinburgh festival and has performed on numerous stages at Glastonbury.
Stevie has started playing bigger venues and has performed on shows with Lee Mack, Milton Jones, Trevor Lock and Paul Sinha.

A keen traveller and driver, Stevie is very committed to fulfilling his dream of performing in every County in the UK and Ireland.   Stevie is on the books of many UK promoters and with help from Mirth Control has currently played in 22 Counties of the UK.

Jules O’Brian (Opener)

Jules O’Brian first took to the stage in 2017, at The Comedy Loft, in Birmingham, as part of a night for charity. A keen fan of Rik Mayall, French and Saunders, Victoria Wood, and Joan Rivers, as well as Katherine Ryan, Tim Minchin, Amy Schumer, and the Brum-based Luisa Omielan, Jules states her stand-up style is “Butter wouldn’t melt meets Is That All There Is?” (a reference to the dark song made famous by singer Peggy Lee).

An English Tutor, Jules currently lives in Tamworth, Staffordshire, and performed a sell-out ‘triple-header’ with pals Tal Davis and Hannah Weetman during 2021’s Birmingham Comedy Festival.

Jules O’Brian was shortlisted for Funny Women 2021, and performs at venues and festivals around the country, telling anyone who will listen about ageing disgracefully, body hang-ups, parenting, and dating. She is TalkTalk’s official voice – chosen by none other than the legend Bernard Cribbins – and her silly writings feature frequently in magazines including Prima and MamaLife. This former teacher’s relaxed and chatty style, crowd interaction and warmth, all served with a sardonic wit, make her a natural crowd pleaser.

Eddy Midgley (Middle)

Eddy Midgley’s quarter life crisis hit him like a shovel. Now, he attempts to find humour in his most chaotic stories and scrapes. As a self diagnosed hypochondriac, who spends a bit too much time in the pub, Eddy has knack for going off on personal over-sharing tangents, that will be sure to get the room bouncing from laugh to laugh.

“This cheerful and happy looking comic gave an engaging performance that everyone enjoyed. A fast moving set and he built up a lot of momentum. The makings of a formidable act and his energy fills the room.” NottsComedy Review

Performed across the Midlands and in Manchester, Liverpool and Newcastle, winner of the Project Mayhem Comic’s Comic of the year 2022 as voted by fellow comedians.

Please be advised that our comedy line-ups are subject to change. Our talented comedians are in high demand and, on occasion, may need to cancel at short notice for television or radio recordings, among other reasons. Rest assured, we will always provide a replacement act of similar quality to ensure that our guests receive a great overall show experience.

While most of our guests come for the entire show, we understand that some may be travelling to see a particular comedian. If that’s the case, we recommend checking our website on the day of the show or joining our mailing list to receive the latest updates on any changes to the line-up. We’re committed to providing our guests with the best possible experience, and we thank you for your understanding.
